Naga Chaitanya Preaches Minimalism, Internet Spots His Luxury Watch—Irony Served in Style

Telugu cinema's most sought-after star Naga Chaitanya made news recently after his public admission of no longer being "obsessed" with luxury brands. Giving a promotional interview with his father Nagarjuna and director Sekhar Kammula for the latter's recent film Kuberaa, Chaitanya explained how his experience of working with Kammula on his 2021 release Love Story changed his attitude towards materialism.

 

Chaitanya revealed, "When I met you and collaborated with you in Love Story, I recall being brand-crazy like every other young fellow. But once I saw you all and your friends, I saw the comfortable life you live. They know what they want, they know what their happiness is. What else does anyone need? I actually observed all of you, you and your gang have saved me lots of money. I realized I just need to focus on what's needed". Kammula, who is known to live an austere life, smiled at the confession, and said, "Once you doubt yourself, there's no pressure".

 

But the internet was quick to catch on to the irony: Chaitanya was wearing a pricey Audemars Piguet watch for ₹41 lakh while giving the same interview in which he had spoken of simplicity. Social media users highlighted the contradiction, and a thrilling debate on the authenticity of celebrities and the burden of popular opinion followed.
