From December 8, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport will start charging private vehicles that remain in arrival pick‑up lanes for more than eight minutes. Cars will pay ₹150 for 8–13 minutes and ₹300 for 13–18 minutes, with overstays beyond 18 minutes facing towing and fines, as BIAL targets chronic congestion.

New rules to unclog arrival kerbs
Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) says the move follows rising “artificial congestion” from unauthorised halts, roadside pick‑ups and vehicles idling outside arrival gates and ramps. The airport, which handles roughly 1.3 lakh passengers and nearly 1 lakh vehicles daily, is introducing lane segregation and timed entry to keep traffic moving smoothly at Terminals 1 and 2.
Key highlights
-
Free window: All private cars (white‑board vehicles) get 8 minutes of free use in designated arrival pick‑up zones at T1 and T2.
-
Overstay charges: ₹150 for 8–13 minutes; ₹300 for 13–18 minutes; beyond 18 minutes, vehicles will be towed to the nearest police station, with additional fines and towing fees.
-
Commercial vehicles: Taxis and other commercial cabs must wait only in designated parking (P3/P4 for T1, P2 for T2) with the first 10 minutes of parking free.
-
Objective: BIAL says the system is meant to reduce lane misuse, improve safety and cut delays, not to “penalise” travellers, after an earlier 5‑minute fee attempt was rolled back amid protests.
