Ajay Devgn's highly-awaited crime thriller Raid 2 has finally joined the much-desired Rs 100-crore club in India, nine days after its release in theatres. The movie, produced by Panorama Studios and T-Series and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, reached the milestone on its second Friday, with overall collections now reaching around Rs 100.21 crore.

Key Highlights

Raid 2 kicked off on a good note on May 1, benefiting from the holiday and the success of its previous installment, raking in an impressive Rs 19.25 crore on opening day.

The movie kept gathering steam through its four-day-long opening weekend, raking in Rs 73.83 crore, with word-of-mouth praise and low competition from other major releases.

Weekday releases experienced the anticipated drop, though the movie picked up on the eighth and ninth days, going on to exceed the Rs 100-crore mark as the total figure.

On day nine, Raid 2 took in approximately Rs 4.46 crore, placing it as one of the top post-pandemic performers of Ajay Devgn.

The movie also features Ajay Devgn reprise his role of IRS officer Amay Patnaik, while Riteish Deshmukh is seen as the villainous Dada Manohar Bhai. Vaani Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Rajat Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, and Amit Sial complete the star cast.

Raid 2's joining of the Rs 100-crore club is Devgn's 15th movie to reach there, adding further strength to his box office draw.

Even though it was greeted with mixed-to-positive reviews, the movie's suspenseful storyline and robust performances have appealed to viewers, causing it to perform better than new releases and even overcome the lifetime box office of Devgn's last blockbuster, Bholaa.

Box Office Context

Raid 2's success is notable against the backdrop of competition from other high-profile releases such as Suriya's Retro and Marvel's Thunderbolts, both of which have scored decent figures but have fallen short of Raid 2's domestic prowess.

With its gripping script, star cast, and strong box office collections, Raid 2 will continue its winning momentum in the days ahead, cementing Ajay Devgn's position as Bollywood's top money-spinner.
