Almost a Rockstar: Diana Penty Reveals the Role That Got Away

In a candid revelation, actress Diana Penty shared that she was originally cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 cult film Rockstar, but was dropped after three weeks of acting workshops. The role eventually went to Nargis Fakhri, marking her Bollywood debut.

 

Diana, who was then a model living in New York, traveled to India after being approached by Imtiaz Ali. She was not an actress but went for workshops at the director's insistence. But after a few weeks, Imtiaz told her, "You've come a long way, but I still don't feel you're ready to play this character." Diana told her that she was relieved because even she was not very sure then.

 

Interestingly, this was not the end of it. Imtiaz proposed a year later that she play Meera in Cocktail—a movie he had written—which was the official launch and box office success.

 

Diana is back in the limelight once again with her new movie Detective Sherdil, which is streaming on ZEE5, with Diljit Dosanjh and Boman Irani.
