Panaji’s public transport has undergone a dramatic transformation with the introduction of 48 electric buses under the Smart City initiative. From July 2024 to March 2025, nearly 17 lakh commuters-over 1.69 million-have embraced these clean, quiet, and air-conditioned e-buses, covering 8.8 lakh kilometers and generating monthly revenues that soared from ₹6.5 lakh to ₹27.2 lakh.

Digital ticketing has taken off, with 19,500+ smart cards issued and 33% of fares now paid via UPI and cards, making travel seamless and cashless. The e-bus fleet has also slashed carbon emissions by 66.5 tonnes monthly, eased city congestion, and improved accessibility for all, including the physically challenged. Panaji’s success is now a model for sustainable, tech-driven urban mobility across India.
