Bollywood's sweetheart Anushka Sharma recently shared her very intimate experience with post-pregnancy body image, which has been debated and supported extensively. The actress, who gave birth to daughter Vamika in January 2021 and son Akaay in February 2024 with cricketer Virat Kohli, openly shared her initial fear and how she managed to overcome that to love herself.

Key Highlights

Candid Confession: In a candid interview, Anushka confessed, "Last week, I was telling a friend how terrified I was because of this pressure that is put on women to look a certain way, even before they are mothers, even before they are pregnant, and afterward definitely. And I am a very self-conscious person, and I was terrified. I was thinking constantly – am I going to loathe my body?"

Journey to Acceptance: Anushka admitted that her body is no longer as toned as it once was, but she is more comfortable with her own body than ever. "I've realized that it's a mindset, it has nothing to do with appearance. My body's not the same as it used to be; it's not as toned as it used to be. And I'm striving for it because I enjoy being fit. And with that said, I'm more comfortable in my skin today than I was earlier, even when I used to have that perfect body."

Letting Go of Perfection: She said that she formerly overcriticized her photos. "I take a picture and I post it without overthinking about the way I look. You have to learn to love the body that has done something so incredible and miraculous for you."

Message to Women: Anushka, hoping that her honesty will make other women abandon the beauty ideals that are unrealistic, urges women to love their bodies for their strength and resilience, especially after childbearing.

Support System: She also attributed Virat Kohli's support system during difficult times, specifically the first trimester difficulties and postpartum mood swings.

Anushka's honesty not only resonates with new mothers but also challenges postpartum body shame and unrealistic expectations, prompting many to embrace and love themselves.
