In a completely unforeseen turn of events, directly related to the suggested demand that Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's upcoming comedic effort, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ will soon be released May 23, 2025, after a public battle between the large multiplex company PVR Inox and the film's producers, Maddock Films. Following an initial decision, the film would release on Amazon Prime Video after being previously moved to a direct OTT release.

It all began when the film’s producers, indicating heightened national security was prompted by some movement in India’s ever-reliable pattern of visits with Pakistan nation’s leaders, announced they were skipping a theatral release and debuting directly onto OTT. At PVR Inox's insistence, their breach of contract lawsuit was initiated, subsequently seeking damages in the amount of 60 crores, which at that time the Bombay High Court concluded that there needed to be an opening theatrical release before the film could go online.  The solution was obtained and the ripped date of the film is now scheduled to open first in theatres on May 23, and directly following that, opening a mere two weeks as an OTT on Prime Video, June 6, which alter to the prior demand from Maddock Films by suggesting an 8 week lead time.

The advantages of the case apply with small-budget efforts, but the ability of an individual one-time two-week substitute releases for potential direct online gains could be negotiated in the future. Historically, 8-week release windows created delays for smaller budget films waiting to reach OTT format streaming due to limited release strategies. Loss or gain in popular acceptance is helpful in negotiating better timestamps for new film releases.  Especially, for those smaller-range efforts that hope to get back some capital to move forward in creative filmmaking spaces.

PVR Inox has made it clear there is still a return to a normal benchmark of 8 week lead times to see when someone may achieve potentiality negotiations. However, the incident with Bhool Chuk Maaf is an important occurrence for small-budget filmmakers as it relates to this ongoing discussion about small-budget filmmaking practices and the potential future becomes more find out and determine timeframes.
