Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched the Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme, offering Rs 10 lakh per annum health insurance (Rs 5 lakh from Centre and Delhi) to citizens over 70 years. The scheme offers free diagnostic tests, emergency services, and cashless treatment at 100+ empanelled hospitals, with plans to roll it out nationwide.
Beneficiaries are given a customized Vay Vandana Card retaining medical history, check-up records, and emergency information. The process of registration involves just an Aadhaar card and proof of residency in Delhi, without income caps. The initiative will cover 6 lakh seniors in phases with the support of ₹12,893 crore spent on healthcare upgrades, such as 24 new hospitals and 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs for primary healthcare.
CM Gupta condemned the previous government for putting off the launch of Ayushman Bharat, terming this as a "triple-engine model" for inclusive welfare.
