Filmmaker Amar Kaushik revealed that Aneet Padda was cast as the lead in Maddock Films’ upcoming superwoman-themed horror comedy Shakti Shalini after he was impressed by her debut performance in Saiyaara. Kaushik said Aneet’s youthful energy and instinctive acting made her “a perfect fit,” with filming beginning in January 2026.

The Stree and Bhediya creator, Amar Kaushik, has finally broken his silence on casting rising star Aneet Padda in Shakti Shalini, the latest entry in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). The announcement, revealed via a teaser attached to Thamma, sparked excitement across Bollywood for what Kaushik calls “the universe’s most ambitious female-led chapter.”

Inspired by Saiyaara: Kaushik shared that Aneet was finalized after he watched her breakout performance in Saiyaara, describing her as a natural performer with “charisma and grace perfect for Shalini’s character arc.” He said, “We were writing the script when I saw her film and instantly knew she suited the part. She heard the story and came on board.”.

Replacing Kiara Advani: Aneet Padda replaced Kiara Advani, who was initially considered for the role. According to Kaushik, Maddock Films wanted “younger energy” to redefine the tone of the universe while keeping the narrative fresh for the next generation of viewers.

Filming and Release: Kaushik confirmed that production will commence in January 2026, with a theatrical release scheduled for December 24, 2026. The project will be the only Maddock Horror Comedy Universe release of 2026, as the studio aims to avoid creative saturation within the franchise.

About the Film: Shakti Shalini will reportedly introduce the MHCU’s first superhuman female protagonist, blending supernatural thrills with Kaushik’s trademark humor. The director teased that the movie will explore “power, faith, and transformation” while retaining the quirky charm that defines Maddock’s beloved horror-comedy films.

Franchise Expansion: With Stree 2 and Thamma both performing strongly, Shakti Shalini continues the connected storylines leading toward the 2028 mega-crossover film Mahayudh, which Kaushik described as “the endgame of Maddock’s horror universe”.
