US recycling leader Circ has been funded by the French government and the European Union to build a groundbreaking $500 million plant in Saint-Avold, France-the world's first to recycle cotton and polyester blend on an industrial scale. The factory will open in 2028 and will process 70,000 metric tons of polycotton waste annually and will have a workforce of 200, marking a massive leap for circular fashion and Europe's net-zero ambitions. The company will use Circ's hydrothermal technology to shred and recycle both polyester and cotton in blended fibers-a process long confounding recyclers. CEO Peter Majeranowski calls it a "landmark milestone" for sustainable fashion, with global brands and suppliers queuing up to take advantage of this new model of circular economy. Source: Reuters
