West Bengal is reeling under a cold wave as Kolkata recorded its season’s lowest temperature at 12.8°C. The chill is expected to persist into early January.
The final week of December has brought a sharp dip in temperatures across West Bengal, with Kolkata recording its coldest day of the season at 12.8 degrees Celsius. The Alipore Meteorological Department confirmed that the city’s minimum temperature has steadily declined over three consecutive days, dropping from 13.7°C on Thursday to 12.9°C on Friday, and further to 12.8°C on Saturday.
The biting northerly winds sweeping across the state have intensified the cold wave, making conditions particularly severe in north Bengal. Dense fog warnings have been issued for northern districts, while south Bengal has been advised of light to moderate fog that could reduce visibility to as low as 200 metres. Morning fog has already begun to disrupt daily routines, with commuters facing delays and reduced visibility on major roads.
