World's largest coal producing firm Coal India Limited (CIL) has made a significant step towards clean energy revolution by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AM Green Ammonia (India) on 7th May 2025 in Kolkata. The agreement is to supply green power from CIL's ambitious 4.5 GW renewable energy projects to AM Green's green ammonia plant at Kandla or any other future plants.
This collaboration is a strategic move for both partners. For Coal India, the collaboration is diversification from coal to large-scale renewable energy following India's national green hydrogen and ammonia ambitions. For AM Green Ammonia, the MoU offers a secure source of clean electricity, a primary feedstock for the production of green ammonia-a key decarbonisation fuel for industry such as fertilizers, shipping, and electricity generation.
The deal is expected to accelerate India's green ammonia ecosystem development, putting the country in accordance with the vision of becoming a world leader in renewable fuels. Production of green hydrogen and ammonia on renewable energy sold under this MoU will help AM Green Ammonia attain world-class standards of green hydrogen and ammonia, with potential export growth in high sustainability standard markets.
The deal today underscores the growing partnership between traditional energy giants and newer green tech firms, paving the way to a greener, cleaner industrial age.
