Rolls-Royce Secures Long-Term EJ200 Engine Support Contract with UK Ministry of Defence

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a multi-year contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to provide maintenance and service support for the EJ200 engine, which powers the Royal Air Force’s fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The agreement ensures continued operational readiness and reliability of the Typhoon fleet, reinforcing the UK’s air defense capabilities.

 

The contract, valued at approximately 563 million pounds, covers essential repair, maintenance, and technical support services for the EJ200 engine. Rolls-Royce’s Bristol facility will serve as the primary hub for servicing and sustaining the engines, leveraging its expertise in aerospace engineering.

 

The EJ200 engine, developed under the Eurojet consortium, plays a critical role in the performance of the Typhoon aircraft, providing high thrust-to-weight ratio and advanced propulsion technology. The Ministry of Defence has justified the direct award of the contract to Rolls-Royce, citing the company’s exclusive technical expertise and infrastructure necessary for maintaining the engine’s airworthiness.

 

This agreement is part of the UK’s broader strategy to sustain its fast jet capability into the 2030s, ensuring that the Typhoon remains a frontline platform for national defense and NATO operations. The contract also supports ongoing deployments and training exercises conducted by RAF squadrons.
