Mumbai welcomed its first spell of pre-monsoon showers this week, offering much-needed respite from the relentless summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby districts, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds through May 17.

Cooler Temperatures:
Daytime highs have dipped to a pleasant 29–30°C, a relief for Mumbaikars after weeks of sweltering conditions. However, the drop in temperature comes with a new challenge-soaring humidity levels, now hovering between 66% and 74%, making the air feel heavy and sticky.

Weather Alerts:
The IMD’s yellow alert covers Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, warning of possible thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 50 km/h. While no severe weather is expected in Mumbai itself, the city is likely to see patchy showers and cloudy skies over the next few days.

Air Quality Boost:
The showers have improved Mumbai’s air quality, with the AQI dropping to a ‘satisfactory’ 52, providing a welcome breath of fresh air.

No Heatwave Ahead:
Meteorologists confirm that no major heatwave is expected in Mumbai or Maharashtra in the coming days, with temperatures set to remain manageable.

Looking Ahead:
The pre-monsoon pattern is expected to persist, with more showers and isolated thunderstorms likely next week as the city transitions into the full monsoon season.
