India will take its first-ever digital census in 2025, a path-breaking initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to propel the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. Delayed by the pandemic and elections, this census will transcend polarized politics, aiming at real-time, true socio-economic data and inclusion, not division.

For the first time after 1931, the census will have exhaustive caste enumeration, fulfilling long-standing requests for recent data to guide welfare, reservation, and resource allocation policies. The exercise will use mobile apps, self-enumeration portals, and digital verification, reducing errors and making it transparent.

This online database will underpin critical reforms-from the redrawing of electoral constituencies to the targeting of social programs-making it a cornerstone for evidence-based policymaking and the government's "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" agenda.
