Dangote Group Accelerates Industrial Growth: Commences Major Refinery and Fertilizer Expansion Projects with Engineers India

The Dangote Group has signed contracts with Engineers India to expand its refinery capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, and fertilizer capacity, including urea production, with all projects slated for completion within three years. The group also announced scheduled refinery maintenance to ensure operational excellence.

In a strategic move bolstering Nigeria’s industrial capacity, the Dangote Group has formalized contracts with the Indian engineering giant, Engineers India Limited, for significant refinery and fertilizer expansion projects. The refinery’s capacity is set to nearly double from 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) to 1.4 million BPD, positioning it among the world’s largest single-train refineries.

The expansion timeline is ambitious, targeting a project completion within three years. Concurrently, the fertilizer production capacity will be increased significantly, with urea output planned to rise from the current 3 million tons per year to 12 million tons annually, strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural and industrial base.

Maintenance activities for the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) unit, a critical refining component, are scheduled over five weeks spanning December and January, underscoring Dangote’s commitment to operational safety and efficiency.

These developments underscore Dangote’s vision to drive Nigeria’s industrial self-reliance, enhance export capabilities, and catalyze economic growth. The multi-year projects promise significant employment opportunities and technological transfers, reinforcing Dangote as a pillar of Africa’s manufacturing and energy future.
