Vikram Solar Ltd has successfully commissioned its 5 GW Vallam facility in Tamil Nadu, marking a substantial increase in the company’s solar module manufacturing capacity. This facility, part of a strategic expansion plan, strengthens India’s renewable energy capabilities and supports domestic and global clean energy goals.
Vikram Solar Ltd, one of India’s leading solar module manufacturers, has commissioned its new 5 GW manufacturing facility at Vallam, Tamil Nadu. This development represents a significant capacity boost, expanding the company’s total production footprint and reinforcing its position in the rapidly growing solar energy sector.
The Vallam facility features four high-tech production lines, each capable of generating 1.25 GW, constructed within a record time of just six months. The first two lines commenced operations in November 2024, with the remaining two expected to be functional by December 2024. This expansion almost doubles Vikram Solar’s manufacturing capacity, helping meet increasing domestic and international demand for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.
This facility complements other ongoing expansions, including a 6 GW module manufacturing plant at Gangaikondan and plans for a 12 GW cell manufacturing facility. Combined, these initiatives aim to elevate Vikram Solar’s total manufacturing capacity to approximately 15.5 GW by the end of the fiscal year.
Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary highlighted the importance of this expansion in accelerating India’s clean energy transition and strengthening the country’s solar manufacturing ecosystem.
