A minor earthquake of 3.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Nepal on Saturday morning, causing momentary panic among the people but resulting in no casualty or serious damage reports in the immediate aftermath. The quake occurred at 10:38 AM IST, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), with the epicenter located at latitude 27.70 N and longitude 86.44 E, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the surface.
The shallow depth of the quake was responsible for the possibility of aftershocks and the effect of the quake in the affected areas. People in certain areas of Nepal reported that the ground moved, and they all evacuated their homes and gathered at public areas as a precautionary measure. Authorities, however, assured that there has not been even a single report of injury or major damage to property till now.
Nepal is located in a seismically active region where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converge, so it is still vulnerable to regular earthquakes. The NCS is still on the lookout for possible aftershocks and has requested people to remain vigilant but not panic.
