Taking a pioneering initiative to provide a fillip to India's clean energy transition, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge with the combined prize money of ₹2.3 crore. The launch took place during the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce organized at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi.
The innovation challenge has a special emphasis on transformative innovations in rooftop solar (RTS) and distributed renewable energy (DRE) technologies. The challenge invites startups and entrepreneurs across India to submit with revolutionary ideas in four high-priority domains:

Affordability – Facilitating solar power for low- and middle-income households.

Resilience – Enhancing grid resilience, climate resilience, and cybersecurity.

Inclusivity – Enhancing access to solar among underprivileged communities.

Environmental Sustainability – Facilitating environmentally friendly and land-neutral solar solutions.
The competition is being conducted by MNRE with the help of National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and StartUp India under DPIIT. Startups from technology sectors like green tech, AI, IoT, blockchain, fintech, and waste management are invited to participate.
Prize Structure:

1st Prize: ₹1 crore

2nd Prize: ₹50 lakh
-
3rd Prize: ₹30 lakh
-
10 Consolation Prizes: ₹5 lakh each
The winners will also receive incubation support, pilot implementation, and mentorship from industry experts and investors.
