With effect from July 1, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is offering a 15% concession on advance booking for all medium- and long-distance bus services of over 150 km, relief to thousands of commuters in the state. The plan, announced by Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik, is to encourage advance booking and raise occupancy levels, especially off-season.
Key Highlights:
Who Gains: The reduction in fare is for advance booking full-fare travelers on any MSRTC bus—premium e-Shivneri services from Mumbai to Pune are also covered.
When It's Valid: The offer is valid on a year-round basis except for peak seasons like Diwali and summer vacations. It will, however, be valid for regular buses on festivals like Ashadhi Ekadashi and Ganesh Chaturthi but not for festival specials.
How to Book: The concession can be reserved at MSRTC ticket counters, website, or the MSRTC Bus Reservation app.
Why It Matters: The move is aimed at bringing down the cost of public transport and making it more cost-effective, saving transport and planning expenses for daily commuters and festival attendees and for MSRTC planning.
Prospects: With the launch of this scheme, Maharashtra hopes to boost bus ridership, lower travel cost for citizens, and enable operations at lean hours, creating a new standard for incentives in public transport.
