In a landmark move to modernize India’s postal and delivery infrastructure, the Department of Posts has introduced DIGIPIN—a revolutionary 10-digit alphanumeric geo-coded addressing system. Developed in partnership with ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and IIT Hyderabad, DIGIPIN is set to replace the decades-old six-digit PIN code system.

What is DIGIPIN? DIGIPIN is a digital public infrastructure (DPI) initiative that assigns a unique 10-character code to every 4x4 meter area across India. It bridges the gap between physical locations and their digital representation, enabling precise identification of addresses.
