Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge on July 14, 2025, in Shivamogga district, Karnataka. The 2.44-km Sigandur Bridge, built across the Sharavathi backwaters, is expected to transform regional connectivity and reduce travel time to Sigandur Temple by nearly two hours.
Infrastructure Milestone
- The bridge spans between Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli in Sagar taluk, built at a cost of Rs 472–473 crore
- It features a 16-meter-wide deck, 740 meters of cable-stayed structure, and 96 cables supported by 164 piles
- The project replaces decades-old barge transport disrupted by the Linganmakki reservoir, fulfilling a long-standing demand from locals
- It connects NH-369E from Avinagalli to Marakutika, enhancing access to pilgrimage and rural zones
