Top medical students in India and the world are being awarded prestigious gold medals for their exceptional academic performances as top universities and medical boards continue to reward merit, hard work, and excellence in the medical profession.

Key Highlights:
  • Festivals of Merit Across the Country: Prestigious colleges such as Maulana Azad Medical College and King George's Medical University (KGMU) give gold medals every year to students who are class toppers or who perform exceptionally well in a particular specialty like medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and so on. For example, KGMU recently added a gold medal in the name of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, to be given to the top student in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  • Global Recognition: The University of London's Gold Medal MBBS viva, which has been in operation since 1903, brings together the best students from London's medical schools in a tough competition. The winners, such as UCL's Salsabeel Kazi in 2024, are awarded a gold medal, cash award, and a spot on the honours board, recognizing both knowledge and clinical ability.
  • Specialty and Memorial Awards: Numerous gold medals are established in memory of illustrious doctors or by benefactors, and awarded for excellence in specific subjects or all-round performance. At the National Board of Examinations, several gold medals are conferred at convocation to top achievers in various specialties of medicine.
  • Community and Legacy: Not only do these awards inspire students to achieve excellence but also pay tribute to the legacy of medical pioneers and the role model of academic distinction in healthcare.
Gold medals continue to be a symbol of excellence and inspiration, motivating future physicians to reach higher and serve with skill and compassion.
