The Government of India has launched a nationwide initiative to develop 100 healthy and hygienic food streets across districts. With financial assistance of ₹1 crore per street, the project aims to modernize street food hubs, ensure safe food practices, boost tourism, and preserve India’s rich culinary heritage.
The Union Health Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has rolled out a landmark initiative to create 100 healthy and hygienic food streets across India. Each selected district will receive ₹1 crore in funding to upgrade existing street food hubs with modern infrastructure, standardized branding, and strict hygiene protocols.
The project is designed to transform India’s vibrant but largely unorganized street food sector into a structured ecosystem that promotes safe food practices, reduces foodborne illnesses, and enhances consumer confidence. Beyond health benefits, the initiative is expected to strengthen livelihoods of street vendors, preserve culinary traditions, and attract tourism by showcasing India’s diverse food culture in a safe and organized manner.
