Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was brought to chaos after a dust storm on Friday evening caused a disruption in flight operations, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. The storm caused a delay in more than 205 flights, diverted 50, and canceled seven, leading to confusion and overcrowding at Terminal 3. Several passengers reported waiting for hours without proper communication or assistance from airlines.
The storm cut down visibility, and it was difficult for air traffic control to handle landings and takeoffs. Passengers used social media to vent their frustration, calling the experience "worse than a bus stand." Complaints ranged from no updates on flight statuses, congested boarding gates, and inadequate assistance for basic necessities such as food and water.
Airlines like Air India and IndiGo released advisories blaming delays due to weather, and the airport authority also apologized for the inconvenience. Passengers, however, criticized the crisis management, with some accusing airline staff of mistreatment.
The dust storm not just impacted air travel but also resulted in extensive damage in Delhi-NCR, including uprooted trees and power failures. Passengers have been advised to look for flight updates more frequently as operations resume gradually.
