22-year-old left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, who set a record with 69 wickets in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, made his much-awaited IPL debut for SunRisers Hyderabad against Lucknow Super Giants on May 19. Dubey, who was acquired as a replacement for R Smaran after going unsold in the mega auction, came in for Travis Head, who was ruled out with a slow recovery from COVID-19.

Dubey's story is one of grit-his parents abandoned their own careers to support his cricketing dream, and his Ranji heroics helped Vidarbha claim the title this season. On his debut, Dubey bowled four overs, picking the crucial wicket of Mitchell Marsh and finishing with figures of 1/44, showcasing his composure under pressure.

From a chance encounter at a cricket academy to IPL stardom, Dubey's story is inspiring a generation of Indian cricketers.
