Health Ministry Cancels All Leaves as India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate

In response to rising geopolitical tensions, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has suspended all forms of leave for its officials, ensuring uninterrupted emergency preparedness. The directive, issued on May 9, mandates that no leave of any kind—including station leave—will be granted until further notice, except on medical grounds.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda chaired a high-level meeting to review the country’s emergency health systems, emphasizing the need for swift mobilization of medical resources. Officials were directed to ensure the availability of essential supplies, including medicines, oxygen, trauma care kits, and blood reserves.

Hospitals and medical institutions across India have been placed on high alert, with AIIMS New Delhi and other central government hospitals mobilizing doctors and nurses for immediate deployment. Nationwide mock drills have been conducted at premier medical institutes to strengthen disaster preparedness.

The Health Ministry’s decision follows heightened security concerns along the western border, where multiple drone attacks and ceasefire violations were reported. The Indian Army remains on high alert, reinforcing defense measures to safeguard national security.
