Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, undertook a comprehensive visit to the shelling-affected areas of Poonch district to assess the situation on the ground and oversee ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures. The visit comes in the wake of recent intense cross-border shelling, which has resulted in significant loss of life, injuries, and widespread damage to residential structures and property.
During his visit, the Divisional Commissioner, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal and other senior officials, interacted directly with affected residents in localities such as Mohalla Kama Khan, Mohalla Syndicate, Village Chaktro, and the District Police Line. He inspected damaged homes and infrastructure, listened to the grievances and demands of the people, and expressed deep condolences to bereaved families.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Ramesh Kumar assured that all possible assistance would be provided at the earliest. He directed officials to expedite damage assessments, ensure prompt disbursement of relief and compensation, and provide adequate medical care for the injured. The Divisional Commissioner also acknowledged the demand for additional bunkers in vulnerable areas and promised to take up the matter with higher authorities to enhance civilian safety.
The district administration, meanwhile, has launched the ‘Report to Support’ initiative, enabling residents to report property and livestock losses via WhatsApp for swift verification and aid. Village-level committees have been constituted to categorize and document damages, ensuring transparency and timely support for every affected family.
The visit underscores the administration’s resolve to deliver a coordinated, compassionate, and effective response to the crisis, with continuous monitoring to address emerging needs and restore normalcy in the border district.
