In a groundbreaking initiative, IIT Madras has become the first Indian Institute of Technology to introduce sports quota admissions for undergraduate programs starting 2024-25. The 'Sports Excellence Admission' (SEA) program will offer two supernumerary seats per course, with one exclusively reserved for female athletes. Eligible candidates must have secured a JEE Advanced rank and won at least one medal in national or international sports competitions within the past four years. The initiative spans 13 sports disciplines, including aquatics, athletics, chess, and cricket.
