Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has announced his decision to contribute his concert fee and one month’s salary to the National Defence Fund, expressing solidarity with India’s armed forces amid rising tensions. The music maestro, who is also a Member of Parliament, shared that his recent symphony, titled Valiant, was composed earlier this year without knowing that May would demand real acts of courage from India’s soldiers.
Ilaiyaraaja emphasized his confidence in the armed forces, stating that their bravery and determination would bring adversaries to their knees. Quoting revolutionary poet Bharathiyar, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the nation’s defenders. His contribution comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national.
The National Defence Fund, established in 1962, relies on voluntary contributions to support the welfare of armed forces personnel and their families. Ilaiyaraaja’s gesture has been widely appreciated, with many calling it a testament to his unwavering patriotism.
