India has donated 15 electric vehicles (EVs) to Nepal, which is a special act of friendship and regional harmony in the wake of the inaugural edition of the 'Sagarmatha Sambaad'-an international discussion centered on climate change, mountains, and humanity's future to be held between May 16–18, 2025, in Kathmandu.
Key Highlights:
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, officially transferred the 15 EVs to Nepal's Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba at a ceremony in Kathmandu.
The cars are donated at Nepal's request to facilitate logistics for the Sagarmatha Sambaad, facilitating convenient transport of guests and officials during the high-profile event.
The Sagarmatha Sambaad, dubbed after Mount Everest (Sagarmatha in Nepali), will unite worldwide stakeholders to explore critical matters of climate change, mountain sustainability, and the fate of humanity.
Ambassador Srivastava pointed out that this support is part of India's continuing tradition of helping Nepal with mega-events, pointing to the equivalent logistical support offered during Nepal's 2022 federal and provincial elections.
Deuba thanked India, recognizing it as Nepal's oldest and largest development partner, and highlighted the significance of such cooperation for regional growth.
The move comes as a reflection of the intimate, multi-dimensional relationship between India and Nepal, powered by strong people-to-people contacts and bilateral devotion to sustainable development.
The EVs are likely to increase the green credentials of the summit in line with its climate-centered agenda.
