India’s textile ambitions are getting a synthetic boost. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, announced that manmade fibre (MMF) will be central to India’s goal of achieving USD 100 billion in textile and apparel exports by 2030. Speaking at the 3rd MMF Conclave in Coimbatore, Margherita emphasized the global shift toward MMF and India’s readiness to lead the charge.

The conclave, themed “Global Trade Dynamics: Strengthening India’s Position in the Manmade Fibre Value Chain,” spotlighted India’s evolving textile strategy. Margherita highlighted initiatives like PMMITRA parks and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which aim to modernize infrastructure and boost competitiveness.

Key Highlights:
  • MMF exports from India touched USD 6 billion last fiscal year, with strong demand from the US, UAE, and Europe.
  • The Union Budget 2025–26 allocated ₹5,272 crore to the Ministry of Textiles, with 22% earmarked for PLI schemes.
  • Industry leaders called for rapid modernization of fibre mixes and stronger downstream capabilities.
  • Tamil Nadu, especially Tiruppur, was hailed as a hub for apparel innovation and MMF adoption.
Margherita also met exporters and trade bodies, assuring them of continued support and promising to push for favorable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). With global demand tilting toward synthetic blends, India’s textile sector is stitching together a future of scale, sustainability, and smart manufacturing.
