Virat Kohli, just retired from Test cricket, could be seen in English county cricket pretty soon as Middlesex County Cricket Club openly expressed its strong interest in signing the Indian icon for the 2025 domestic season. Middlesex's Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, called Kohli "the most iconic player of his generation" and expressed that the club would appreciate having a conversation for a short-term deal.
If the move materializes, Kohli would likely play in the County Championship or Metro Bank One-Day Cup, as BCCI rules bar him from overseas T20 leagues like The Hundred or T20 Blast. Middlesex, which plays at Lord’s, hopes Kohli’s presence-possibly alongside Kane Williamson-will boost both performance and profile. Kohli’s London residence and previous (but unrealized) 2018 county deal add to the feasibility of the stint.
While Kohli has not spoken out himself, a county spell would be his English domestic cricket debut, an opening chapter after his illustrious Test career.
