Hyderabad’s Old City Metro expansion is moving full steam ahead, with land acquisition progressing rapidly along the 7.5-km stretch from MG Bus Station (MGBS) to Chandrayangutta. Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has already distributed compensation cheques worth Rs 212 crore to 205 affected property owners, marking a significant milestone in the project.
Metro MD NVS Reddy praised residents for their cooperation, noting that many property owners voluntarily accepted compensation and handed over their land for development. Engineering teams are working meticulously to remove entangled electric and telephone cables, ensuring safe demolition of structures without affecting nearby sensitive buildings.
While the pace of work slowed slightly during Ramzan, it has now regained momentum. Several structures have already been demolished, clearing the way for road expansion. The project is being closely supervised by Metro rail engineers, along with Revenue and Police teams, to ensure smooth execution.
The Old City Metro expansion is expected to enhance connectivity and ease congestion, with construction set to begin once final approval from the Central Government is received.
