Five years after it was adopted, the National Education Policy (NEP) is transforming Indian education with a vision of integrated, strong, and technology-enabled education. The new 5+3+3+4 pattern supplants the old 10+2 pattern, and more stress is laid on early literacy fundamentals, vocational skills, and access to information from school to college education.
Key Highlights:
Early Learning: National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage and play kits such as Jadui Pitara promote solid foundations for the age group 3-8.
Linguistic Inclusivity: Engineering and medical courses are offered in local languages; national level examinations are held in 13 languages.
Digital Push: Programs like PM e-VIDYA and DIKSHA enhance digital education, while Vidya Samiksha Kendra enables real-time tracking.
Teacher Training: National plans are to train 80% of the teachers in new pedagogy by 2025.
Assessment Reform: PARAKH-type tools shift tests from memorization towards competency-based testing.
Prospects: Even though its rollout is facing setbacks—mainly in rural India—its radical reforms and technologically driven approach are slowly moving India's education system towards a future-proof model
