In a major announcement ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has set a new goal: one crore jobs for the state’s youth by 2030. It’s an ambitious plan that builds on earlier targets and aims to double the employment numbers set for 2020–2025.
What’s Been Done So Far
-
Between 2005 and 2020, over 8 lakh government jobs were given to young people in Bihar
-
By August 2025, the state expects to hit 50 lakh combined jobs and employment placements
-
So far, 10 lakh youth have received government jobs and 39 lakh have found work through various schemes
What’s Changing Now
-
The new target includes both government and private sector jobs, with a focus on industrial development
-
A highlevel committee will be formed to oversee job creation and skillbuilding efforts
-
A new skill university—named after Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur—will be set up to train youth for selfemployment and industryready roles
Why It Matters
Unemployment has long been a challenge in Bihar. This plan could reshape the state’s economic future by combining public sector hiring with private investment and skill development. It’s also a clear signal ahead of the elections that jobs are a top priority.
