Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Rajasthan on May 22, his first visit to the state since the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor. The visit, which comes in the wake of recently relaxed Indo-Pak border tensions, will comprise prayers at the iconic Karni Mata Temple, inauguration of key railway projects, and a public rally close to the international border.
Operation Sindoor Context
This is PM Modi’s first visit to Rajasthan after Operation Sindoor, which saw the Indian Army destroy multiple terrorist hideouts across the border in Pakistan.
The visit comes as border tensions have eased and normalcy is returning, with tourist activity and religious ceremonies resuming in the region.
Karni Mata Temple Visit
PM Modi will offer prayers at the famous Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, Bikaner district, located near the Indo-Pak border.
The temple, alternatively called the "Mouse Temple," is famous for its peculiar practice of worshiping thousands of resident rats, which are regarded as sacred by the devotees.
The tour of Karni Mata Temple is symbolically important because the temple is a spiritual hub to many and is near locations previously affected by cross-border hostilities.
Railway Station Inaugurations
Prime Minister will open some railway stations in India under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including the newly constructed Deshnok station.
Other stations of the Bikaner division, like Dabwali and Gogamedi, have also been refurbished under the scheme.
Public Address and Security
PM Modi will make a big public speech near the Indo-Pak border, the first major public address by the Prime Minister in Rajasthan after Operation Sindoor.
The rally is anticipated to receive heavy turnout and will be joined by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
Security has been escalated, with the district administration and central/state ministers making preparations.
Other Significant Details
PM Modi will arrive at the Nal airport in Bikaner, which is also an Indian Air Force base and was earlier a target of border hostilities.
There are signs that the PM might also engage soldiers manning the international border as an act of solidarity.
The visit reflects the government's dual priority of national security and regional development, both through infrastructural improvements and religious outreach.
