Rail Vikas Nigam Wins Rs 144-Crore South Central Railway Electrification Upgrade

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) for a Rs 144.44 crore project from South Central Railway to upgrade the Ramgundam–Kazipet section’s Overhead Electrification (OHE) system from 1x25kV to 2x25kV. The project focuses on enhancing power efficiency and rail capacity within 18 months.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a key player in India’s railway infrastructure expansion, has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) in a reverse auction conducted by South Central Railway. The work pertains to upgrading the existing 1x25kV traction system to an advanced 2x25kV AT feeding system with comprehensive feeder and earthing works along the Ramgundam (RDM)–Kazipet (KZJ) section of the Secunderabad Division. The total coverage spans 92 Route Kilometers (RKM) or 276 Track Kilometers (TKM).

The tender has been floated under Tender No: 2x25KV-OHE-RDM-KZJ-14 and aims at improving the electrification capacity of a crucial railway corridor that serves both freight and passenger traffic in Telangana. The estimated cost of the contract stands at Rs 144.44 crore (inclusive of taxes), and the entire work is expected to be completed within 18 months.

This award underscores RVNL’s expanding footprint in the electrification segment of Indian Railways, which is steadily moving toward a more energy-efficient, high-capacity grid system. The project involves design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning — reflecting a complete turnkey assignment. South Central Railway, being one of the country’s most active zones in network modernization, has prioritized such technological upgradations to meet the surge in demand on high-density routes.
