Hyderabad received much-needed respite from the recent heatwave on Wednesday, as moderate to heavy rainfall covered the city and adjoining areas. The BHEL Factory in Ramachandrapuram received the highest rainfall total at 36.3 mm, followed by Patancheru (31.0 mm) and Gachibowli (25.0 mm). Rainfall totals throughout the city included Malakpet (22.0 mm), Lingampally (18.0 mm), Moosarambagh (18.0 mm), Asmangadh (17.0 mm) and Malkajgiri (17.0 mm).
The downpours began in the afternoon and intensified into the evening, resulting in a drop in temperatures (the maximum temperature dropped to 33.4°C, more than six degrees below the seasonal normal). The minimum temperature dipped to 25.6°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted further rainfall for the city through May 27, and cloudy skies, coupled with intermittent thundershowers and gusty winds in places may reach up to 40 km/h, are predicted. Daytime temperatures may average in the comfortable range of 32°C to 34°C, providing ongoing respite from the summer heat.
Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts with further rain and thunderstorm predictions over the next week.
