The rugby community can celebrate as the 2026 Guinness Six Nations Championship fixtures have been formally announced, providing a new and exciting spin on the popular tournament. The marquee adjustment for next year's event is the addition of a Thursday night opening match, a first in the competition's rich history.

The tournament gets underway on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a blockbuster clash between France and England at Twickenham, pitting the champions against one of their toughest rivals in a championship that's all about embracing innovation. The change is part of an overall reorganization, designed to improve the viewing experience and cater for global audiences.

The new format features matches more evenly spread across each round, with players having more rest days and a more spectator-friendly fixture list. The Friday night fixture remains, but the Thursday night opener should attract massive television audiences and bring a festival atmosphere to the first week of action.

Other highlights are Ireland playing Scotland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, February 7, and Wales facing Italy in Cardiff on Sunday, February 8. The tournament will be played out over a five-week window, with Super Saturday on March 14 when all six teams play to determine the title.

Organisers say these alterations will introduce new vitality to the Six Nations, opening it up and making it more interesting for supporters from across the globe, as well as ensuring player wellbeing with enhanced periods of recuperation.
