The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has launched SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness), a nationwide programme aimed at embedding artificial intelligence education into the school system. Unveiled at the Bharat SkillNxt 2025 event, SOAR targets students from Classes 6 to 12 and educators, marking a transformative step in India’s digital skilling roadmap.
Programme Structure And Learning Pathways
- Students will engage with three progressive 15-hour modules: AI to be Aware (basic concepts), AI to Acquire (hands-on programming), and AI to Aspire (ethics, careers, and societal impact).
- Teachers will undergo a 45-hour AI for Educators module to effectively deliver content and mentor students.
- The curriculum covers generative AI, cybersecurity, responsible tech use, and real-world applications.
Inclusivity And Implementation Strategy
- SOAR adopts a hybrid learning model combining online resources with practical workshops.
- Schools are encouraged to set up AI clubs and labs to foster experimentation and peer learning.
- The initiative prioritizes equitable access, especially for rural and underserved communities, and promotes gender diversity in STEM.
Global Partnerships And Policy Alignment
- A key MoU was signed with the Government of the French Republic to support joint curriculum development and talent exchange.
- The programme aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and Viksit Bharat 2047 goals, aiming to build the world’s largest AI-ready student population.
Outlook
SOAR positions India to lead globally in youth AI literacy, preparing students not just to understand technology but to shape its future.
