In a major stride toward inclusive governance, the Government of India has revamped the Sugamya Bharat App (SBA)—its flagship digital platform for accessibility reporting—introducing a suite of upgrades aimed at empowering Divyangjan and elderly citizens. Spearheaded by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), the overhaul enhances both functionality and user experience.
The updated app now features an AI-powered chatbot for real-time assistance, a more intuitive interface, and seamless integration with government schemes and circulars. Originally launched in 2021, the SBA enables users to report accessibility barriers in public infrastructure, transport, and digital services by uploading geo-tagged photos.
Key Highlights:
- AI Chatbot Support: Offers instant help and updates on schemes, making the app more interactive and responsive.
- User Growth: As of June 25, 2025, the app has 14,358 registered users and 83,791 downloads—a majority on Android.
- Complaint Resolution: Out of 2,705 complaints lodged, 1,897 have been resolved, reflecting a 70% redressal rate.
- Accessibility Tools: Features like font size adjustment, screen readers, and multilingual support enhance usability.
- Citizen Engagement: The app promotes Jan-Bhagidari (public participation) in building a barrier-free India.
The government urges citizens to actively use the app, now available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store, to report challenges and contribute to a more inclusive nation.
