Air India has announced it will give an interim payment of ₹25 lakh (about $30,000) to each family who lost someone in the recent Ahmedabad plane crash, as well as to the only survivor. This is meant to help families with immediate expenses while the full compensation process continues.
Here’s what you should know:
-
This interim payment comes on top of the ₹1 crore (about £85,000) support that Tata Sons, Air India’s parent company, has already promised to each affected family.
-
The airline says the interim funds are meant to cover urgent needs, such as travel, accommodation, and other expenses families might face right now.
-
The crash of Air India flight AI171 was devastating, taking 241 lives, including passengers, crew, and people on the ground. Only one person survived.
-
Victims include doctors, students, hospital staff, and residents living near the crash site. The tragedy has deeply affected the Meghaninagar community and beyond.
Air India has set up help centers in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and London to assist families with travel and other support.
Tata Group has also committed to helping rebuild the BJ Medical College hostel, which was damaged in the crash, and will continue to support the wider community.
If you or someone you know is affected, Air India says their support teams are available to help with any questions or arrangements. The airline and Tata Group have both said they are committed to standing by the victims’ families during this difficult time.
