The government of India has initiated a sequence of efforts aimed at modernizing Ayurveda using innovative research and development. Recently, the foundation stone of the new Central Ayurveda Research Institute at New Delhi, a ₹187 crore institution that has a 100-bed hospital for research, was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has also opened four Ayush Centres of Excellence at top institutions such as IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi, with an aim towards diabetes, metabolic disorders, and sustainable solutions for Ayurvedic medicines. The Union Budget 2025-26 also allocated ₹3,992.90 crores to the Ministry of AYUSH, a rise of 14.15% compared to last year. This huge amount is to aid infrastructure, establish standardized treatments, and facilitate global outreach for Ayurveda. These efforts will turn Ayurveda into a science-verified, internationally acclaimed healthcare system with its roots firmly established in the traditional system.
