At last, after weeks of sweltering weather, Ludhiana is about to find some respite. The southwest monsoon is set to arrive in the city within a period of three to four days, with rains and respite from scorching temperatures, claims the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

What to Expect:
  • Pre-Monsoon Showers: Moderation rain is expected till June 23, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are likely to accompany the showers following it.
  • Favorable Conditions: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials confirm atmospheric and synoptic conditions are favorable for the progress of the monsoon over Punjab.
  • Rainfall Outlook: Light to moderate rain is expected at most places on June 22, and at a considerable number of places on June 23, 25, and 26.
Heatwave Hangover
Ludhiana, and the rest of Punjab with it, has been enduring the intense heat, with temperatures crossing record levels. Arrival of monsoon is expected to ease the heatwave and restock ground water levels critical for agriculture.

Agriculture Impact
  • Monsoon onset in time is crucial for transplantation of paddy, which is in full swing in the last week of June. Farmers in the region are preparing for the seasonal shift, awaiting consistent rain to ensure crop cycles.
  • With IMD predicting a normal monsoon, residents of Ludhiana can look forward to better days and greener fields in the coming days.
