1. A Roots and Reach Journey: The Global South Focus

Diplomatic Highlights:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on an eight-day, five-nation visit from July 2-9, 2025, to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

The visit is a reflection of India's renewed outreach to the Global South, fusing strategic alliance with cultural re-engagement.

One of the key subjects of the tour is encountering the Indian diaspora—the grandchildren and children of the indentured workers who now constitute the economic and political base of their host nations.

2. Ghana: A Historic First in Three Decades

Engagement Milestones:

PM Modi's visit is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in 30 years.

He will speak to the Ghanaian Parliament and address more than 15,000 Indian expatriates.

Agriculture, vaccine manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and defense will be addressed during meetings with President John Dramani Mahama.

Trade and investment relationships valued at $3 billion and $2 billion, respectively, will also get a boost through new MOUs.

3. Trinidad & Tobago: A Homecoming of Culture

Emotional Resonance:

The trip marks the 180th anniversary of the Indian arrival in Trinidad and Tobago, in which nearly half the people are Indian by heritage.

PM Modi will speak to a joint parliament session and a massive diaspora event.

The talks will be centered on renewable energy, agriculture, digital services, and health cooperation.

The trip is symbolic since the Prime Minister and President of T&T are both of Indian heritage.

4. Argentina: Strategic Minerals and Digital Bridges

Economic Priorities:

It is the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to Argentina in the last 57 years.

Discussion with President Javier Milei will include collaboration on lithium, copper, shale oil, and gas. India's state-run mining activities in Catamarca will be encouraged, apart from fresh entrepreneurship in space technology, defence, and digital innovation.

5. Brazil: BRICS and Bilateral Boosts

Multilateral Momentum:

PM Modi will attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, which will focus on AI governance, climate finance, and institutional reform.

Bilateral negotiations with President Lula da Silva will include defence networks, alternative sources of energy, and widening the India-MERCOSUR free trade agreement.

Brazil is India's largest Latin American trade partner with bilateral trade at $12.2 billion.

6. Namibia: Back to Common Struggles and Future Synergies

Legacy and Vision:

Modi's visit to Namibia is the first in 27 years by an Indian PM.

The visit acknowledges India's consistent backing of Namibian independence and aims at increasing cooperation in energy, education, and wildlife conservation.

He will address the Namibian Parliament and have high-level bilateral talks.
