UltraTech Cement, India's largest cement manufacturer and a flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, has further solidified its leadership position in the international market by increasing its overall installed capacity to 190.16 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) globally. The domestic grey cement manufacturing capacity of the company is now at a whopping 184.76 MTPA, demonstrating a series of strategic expansions and operational milestones reached over recent months.
Important Capacity Expansions
UltraTech has commissioned a 3.35 MTPA clinker capacity and one of two cement mills (2.7 MTPA) at its Madhya Pradesh-based Maihar unit. The second grinding mill at this location is scheduled to be commissioned in Q1 FY26, adding further to production.
Pan-India Growth:
The firm has undertaken brownfield expansions at its Dhule, Maharashtra (1.2 MTPA) and Durgapur, West Bengal (0.6 MTPA) grinding facilities. UltraTech also commissioned its first bulk terminal in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with a capacity for 1.8 MTPA, strengthening its network for logistics and distribution.
Domestic Leadership
With these new additions, UltraTech's overall domestic grey cement production capacity has jumped to 184.76 MTPA, making it the largest cement producer in India and among the largest in the world after China.
Global Footprint:
With its international operations included, UltraTech's global capacity now reaches 190.16 MTPA, highlighting its position as a world cement giant.
Efficiency and Cost Management:
The recent expansions by the company are a part of a larger plan to debottleneck operations and improve efficiency. Energy expenses were said to be 13% lower year-on-year in the most recent quarter, which helped improve margins in spite of industry headwinds.
