NPCI Mandates User Consent for UPI Number Seeding and Porting

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new guidelines requiring UPI apps to obtain explicit user consent for seeding or porting UPI numbers. This change aims to enhance user security and prevent errors due to recycled mobile numbers. Starting April 1, 2025, banks and payment service providers must update their databases weekly to remove inactive numbers. Users will be presented with an opt-in option by default, ensuring that no changes are made without their approval. This move is part of NPCI's efforts to make UPI transactions more secure and transparent.
