One Nation, One KYC: Nirmala Sitharaman Pushes For Unified Verification

Speaking at SEBI’s 38th Foundation Day in Mumbai, Sitharaman emphasized that citizens should not be burdened with repetitive Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. She highlighted SEBI’s digital infrastructure and credibility as key to driving this reform, urging regulators to act collectively and swiftly.  

Unified KYC For Financial Inclusion

Currently, multiple KYC submissions create inefficiency and frustration for investors. A single, portable KYC framework would streamline onboarding, reduce fraud risks, and save time. Sitharaman stressed that Aadhaar and DigiLocker could power this digital transformation, ensuring secure and seamless verification across platforms.  

Investor Growth And Market Impact

India’s capital markets are booming, with IPOs raising nearly ₹1.9 lakh crore across 366 listings in FY25-26. Simplified KYC is expected to further democratize retail participation, making financial services more accessible and investor-friendly.
