The Padma Awards 2025 have been announced, giving due recognition to 139 distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions in various fields. The prestigious awards include seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri that were announced on the eve of Republic Day. The honours span from medicine to art and social work.
Notable among the recipients are 100-year-old Libia Lobo Sardesai, a freedom fighter from Goa, who actively contributed to the freedom struggle in India, celebrated singer Arijit Singh, and para-archer Harvinder Singh, who made history as the first Indian to bag a gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Besides, cervical cancer specialist Dr. Neerja Bhatla and cultural activist Gokul Chandra Dey, who has empowered women through traditional music, was also honored for his work.
The Padma Awards of the year will be observed to reflect a wide-ranged feature of talents with 23 women and several posthumous recognitions. The spirit of excellence and dedication within the nation is indeed continued by the Padma Awards.
